Evora Column This column showcases pivotal events and legendary heroes of Evora and Portugal's rich history. Standing on a solid square base, it is situated near Largo da Porta de Moura in Évora at N 38° 34' 14.181087" W 7°54' 19.551603". Facing southwest, northwest, northeast, and southeast at the base, the column twists gradually towards its top, aligning with cardinal directions north, south, east, and west. The column features reliefs depicting significant events from Évora's history. Divided into three distinct parts – bottom, middle, and upper sections – the column showcases intricate relief sculptures and inscriptions throughout. The topmost part of the column boasts a stunning façade. Its southwest-facing front contains a relief carving of Giraldo at its base. Giraldo is depicted on horseback, wielding a sword in one hand while grasping the severed head of his adversary. Above this relief lies an inscription that reads "1166 Giraldo sem pavor," which translates to "Gerald the Fearless."
