A Discretized Hyperbolic Paraboloid
thingiverse
The model depicts a hyperbolic paraboloid, or saddle point, which is typically a continuous surface. However, this version is discretized into varying height square prisms. Not only does it look visually appealing, but it also feels pleasant to touch. Included are three STL files: 'hyperbolicParaboloid.stl' for single extruder machines with 16x16 squares, each measuring 3mm per side; and 'hyperbolicParaboloidOddSquares.stl' and 'hyperbolicParaboloidEvenSquares.stl' for dual extruder machines to create different colors in every other square. Additionally, the openSCAD source allows you to customize the number of squares per side and the size of each square.
