9mm Plastic Bottle Cutter with Embedded Blade
thingiverse
I tried a couple different bottle cutters on thingiverse and I found that the slot for inserting the razor or knife would more often than not be fused together not allowing insertion of the blade. I just decided to make that part of the design by embedding the razor into the design itself. To make this you will need some common thin blade utility knives like this: https://www.dollartree.com/tool-bench-hardware-snap-off-utility-knives-3ct-packs/186561 Remove the blade from the plastic housing and break it into four equal length pieces. The pieces should be about an 1 inch long individually. Put a break/pause in the print to insert the blade. For 0.2mm layer height in Prusa slicer I added an M600 color change at layer 74 in order to insert the blade. I used a dab of super glue on each end to secure the blade before resuming the print. **Your printer will need to be able to support M600 code or you will need to pause the print manually. ** You absolutely need to verify that the internal cavity where the blade will sit has enough height to fit the blade before you start printing. For me, 0.2mm layer height gave me 3 layers or about 0.6mm tall cavity which fits the blade thickness of 0.015" (~0.4mm).** This design should cut ribbons about 9mm wide which should be about right for 2 liter pop bottle material thickness for use in a pulltrusion system such as PETamentor. The mounting holes are designed to fit common construction screws. Advantages: -No longer worry about prints fusing together and not being able to insert your blade. -Safer for small children. -Simple compact design. -Can be mounted to a bench or block of wood. -Makes use of the entire cutting surface since you only use a small piece of blade. -Rugged and durable. Blade will not move during cutting. Disadvantages: -Not designed to be reused. Once the blade is worn out you have to dispose of it. -Cutting height not adjustable (though you could have several different cutting heights pre-assembled.
