9MM Dry Fire Action Stop
thingiverse
A neighbor of mine was practicing dry firing with his 9MM and had been using a bobby pin to keep the action slightly open. The bobby pin kept catching on his holster every time he would draw or stow his weapon during practice sessions, forcing him to choose between clumsy stow/removals or no dry firing at all. He reached out to me for help, so I took some measurements on his weapon and modeled it from scratch in Fusion 360. Since the device had a simple function, I adopted a straightforward approach, adding extra traction and visual flair with a pic rail design. The model provides enough strength when in the action while still fitting within the recess where cartridges eject. The device is quite small, but I printed it using PLA; I recommend using stronger, more shock-resistant filaments whenever possible. Be extremely cautious when dry-firing and adhere to all recommended safety precautions. This device does not replace or guarantee safety, and using it will never make up for a lack of knowledge about firearms. If you're unsure how to handle a firearm safely, don't use this model – seek professional education instead. The last thing I'd want is someone dry-firing a bullet left in the barrel.
