9g Servo Mounting Clips
thingiverse
Clips that secure servos in position while building with foam board, allowing for easy servo swaps without damaging the surrounding material. This eliminates the need for glue, making it simple to switch out servos between projects without destroying the existing work or scrubbing away old adhesive. Ideal for Flite Test style foam board aircraft construction and any other foam board project. These clips are designed to accommodate Tower Pro 9g servos, tested with R.L. Adams Foam board. To ensure a snug fit, add an extra 1/8 inch to the opening length to allow space for both the servo and the clip thickness. The Tower Pro 9g servo measures approximately 7/8 inch long; I typically cut openings at 1 inch, resulting in a seamless snap-in installation. When installing or removing clips, use gentle force to avoid damaging surrounding foam board. A pick or tiny screwdriver can be helpful in prying the clip into place or gently wiggling it out. Practice on a scrap piece before working on an actual project. This design was born from frustration while trying to remove a servo without destroying the plane. The simplicity of this solution is a testament to the power of innovation. Servos are inexpensive, but waiting for shipping or wasting money on replacements can be costly. By providing a convenient clip system, I aim to save modelers time and resources. Note: I design with the limitations of my 3D printer in mind. While it's generally accurate, holes often print smaller than specified. To account for this, I intentionally create larger holes to ensure proper fitment. Before bulk printing, test any part and verify that attached hardware like wire or skewers fits securely.
