9G servo mount with fairing
thingiverse
While creating a new wing for my radio controlled powered glider, I discovered that I required servo trays with a low profile and the capability to hold a 9g style servo without needing access to the normal hold down screws, which are only accessible from the top or bottom of the servo. The tray features a set of slots that capture the mounting ears of the servo and also allow the servo leads to be attached to an extension lead and pushed through the mount and out of the way. The servo tray is connected to the bottom of a flat bottom wing via a flange that encircles the entire tray. The servo is secured in the tray by a servo cover held on with two 3mm x 8mm flat socket head screws. These screws are counter sunk into the surface of the cover, providing a smooth finish. I printed these servo trays from PETG as one of my initial times printing with this material and I am continuing to refine my settings. My only difficulty was when I removed the support material from the flange area. The opening for the servo connector was also filled with support material and on several of the trays that I printed, I cracked the flange when removing the supports in this area. However, nothing a little CA won't cure. The flange will be bonded to the skin in this area and the skin will also provide reinforcement. The tray cover will also conceal this cracked area. The files include the Left hand and Right hand trays and Left hand and Right hand covers. These files may have to be rotated to lie flat on the print bed as imported into the slicer, and I sliced them with full supports using Slic3r. You might be able to only support from the bead and let the servo lead access hole be bridged by slicing with another slicer. I obtained the 3mm screws at my local Ace hardware store, but anyone living outside of the U.S. should be able to find them nearly anywhere. Unless you live in one of the other major industrial nations still using the Imperial system like Myanmar or Liberia. This design was created in CATIA software.
