Lots of the coolest-looking microphones from the 1950s are super fascinating, like the Shure 55 "Elvis" series and the 737A "waffle iron." They utilized a balanced system similar to current XLR jacks: the 91-MC3M jacks. Unfortunately, these old mics don't directly hook up to XLR jacks because their three connecting pins are not aligned. Fortunately, the diameter and length of those pins are identical, even with the same pin numbering: "hot is two; not hot is three." So by breaking a male XLR jack and salvaging its pins, you can create a new 91-MC3M jack with this Thing.
