The 90-guns ship of the line Napoléon was the first purposely built steam battleship. Designed by Dupuy de Lôme, the ship was launched in 1850, resulting in a major revolution in naval warfare. From this date, traditional sailing ships were not considered as capable warships anymore. The Napoléon brought another innovation. The ship was fitted with 22cm Paixhans shell-firing guns, able to wreck the hull of any ship of the time. This highly successful design prompted an arms race between the French and the British, ultimately leading to the apparition of the first seagoing ironclad battleship, the frigate Gloire. The Napoléon participated in the Crimean war, proving the advantages of steam propulsion by towing sailing ships in the Bosporus straits. The Algésiras class is based on the same design, with only the steam engine being different. The model is intended for 1/700 scale, for SLA printers. I do not provided the masts of the warship, because I had a quite bad experience with resin masts and rigging. I think it is better to redo them with metallic rods. However, if you prefer resin masts, the one i did for my Commerce de Marseille ship of the line can be used instead (they might need to be re-scaled a little bit)... EDIT: after buying scaled plans from the Musée de la Marine, I resized the model a little bit to correspond to the exact dimensions of the plans
