9-Sided Box
myminifactory
I created this 9-sided box using the Grasshopper add-on for Rhino3D. Grasshopper is a dynamic modeling package that lets me change all the parameters of my model on the fly. The screenshot shows every setting I used to make this box, and you can see that the knob on top has three options: a torus, a dodecahedron, or a sphere. The top fits snugly onto the bottom because there's a triangular ridge around the box's edge that matches a groove in the top. I have separate controls for adjusting the size and shape of this ridge. If you don't want a top, the edge of the box can be a smooth lip instead. Since Grasshopper has some quirks that might be confusing, I'm not sharing the actual source file here, but I'll be happy to give it to anyone who wants it, along with an explanation of how it works.
