Experimental archaeologist Caroline Jeffra crafts a pot using traditional wheel-throwing techniques, while archaeologist Kelly Papastergiou captures its precise dimensions with the DAVID SLS-3 structured light scanner. The resulting 3D scan is then textured with images from the native DAVID-camera, yielding an incredibly detailed digital model. With a vertex spacing of just 0.0301mm, the original OBJ file weighs in at a massive 1.08GB and boasts an astonishing 7413791 vertices. To make it more manageable for online sharing, the file is skillfully decimated to a still-impressive 613363 vertices, shrinking its size to a mere 173MB.
