These are the commanders and elite troops of obakkar armies. They see themselves as mothers to all obakkar people, fighting for their children on the battlefield, which makes them the single most brutal warrior units in all Valerna—spinning whirlwinds of death riding atop giant saurids. When not commanding entire contingents and leading the charge into battle, war-mother riders are classified by the type of saurid they’re trained to ride - usually a tyrant maw or armored thunderhorn. Skywing Despite their similarities to birds, the only saurid which is actually capable of flight is the skywing, whose front claws have long skin flaps like those of a bat, allowing it to stay airborne most of its life. Skywings are large enough to carry a tall orc standing on their back in flight, which is exactly what they do as part of the obakkar air force. In the wild, they like to snatch prey from the ground or shallow waters, and carry it again to the sky to devour mid-flight.
