Demo video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3CbmtAMRwLA&t=8s 11/27/2018 -- A new .scad file has been added that was used for this project. The customizer is not yet compatible, but it should work in the future. *I just added the base with strips of LED and the fit is fantastic. Pictures and a video have also been included. The new .STL file includes both pieces. In the future, the separate files will be made available along with the .scad file. This project is being powered by an arduino and simple code. An ESP8266 wifi unit will soon replace this.* This project is still in progress and I strongly suggest waiting until it's complete. Changes will be made as mistakes are identified. An 8x8 grid of RGB LEDs is the goal for this project. The RGB LED strip available on Amazon (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01CDTEJBG/) is being used. Translucent white and black will be used to print the face and grids, respectively, to minimize color bleed between cells. The strips will be cut into 8 LEDs each and then wired up. An ESP8266 wifi board will likely be used to power this project. The design was created using OpenSCAD. Traditional CAD programs were not producing the desired results, so OpenSCAD was used instead. With OpenSCAD, the number of cells X-Y, thickness of the 'diffuser', height of the cells, width of the cells, and the width for the LED ribbon to lay in can be adjusted and re-rendered until a satisfactory design is achieved. A back plate will be added that the LEDs will adhere to. This will allow them to be laid out and soldered together.
