8mm rod holder for Kigima filament box
thingiverse
I was thrilled to discover a compact box in Germany that houses a single filament spool without breaking the bank. You can easily find it on Amazon as the Kigima Müsli box, which boasts a 5.7-liter volume. What's more, three of these boxes can be purchased for just 18 Euros. For my setup, this smaller box is a convenient option compared to a larger one with multiple rolls, but your usage case may dictate otherwise. To make things even easier, I designed a rod holder that securely holds an 8mm rod. This allows you to attach your preferred spool hub, which I use - you can find the design [here](https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3118978). The outlet for the PTFE tube is also easily accessible, as shown in this [link](https://www.thingiverse.com/download:5881906). If you'd like to add an extra feature, consider incorporating a hygrometer. I found some great options on Aliexpress that can be easily mounted - check them out [here](https://de.aliexpress.com/item/Mini-Digital-LCD-Indoor-Bequem-Temperatur-Sensor-Feuchtigkeit-Meter-Thermometer-Hygrometer-Gauge/32936762466.html?fbclid=IwAR2cpzsE0I0pdSfXLRnK2sdcqv4fahF9j3u2vfcUnkqIRbzWPn2qhVjyI_c). The rod holder features a central hole where the rod will eventually be placed - this makes it easier to mark the holes for drilling. First, measure and mark the desired position with a pen on both sides. Then, place the printed holder on the outside and align the center hole with your marking. Finally, mark the three holes to drill, allowing you to secure the holder to the box using M4 screws and nuts. Add some silica gel, and you'll have a box that keeps your filament clean and dry.
