The German Flugabwehr-Kanone, or FlaK, is an anti-aircraft gun with the capacity to penetrate 150mm thick armor at 2km distances and reach up to 15,000m altitudes. Despite its primary purpose as an anti-aircraft weapon, it also served against armored vehicles, bunkers, and troops in Europe, Russia, and North Africa. With a crew of four to six members, the gun could fire at rates of 15 to 25 rounds per minute, though typically about five to ten rounds were used in practice. A Daimler-Benz Kfz. Zugkraftwagen half-track truck served as its tractor and ammunition carrier, with some variants mounted directly onto tank or half-track chassis. Produced between 1928 and 1945, the models varied in weight from 4.9 to 7 tons, with a length of 7.62m (25ft) excluding outriggers or wheels. Depending on its location, the 88 might be painted with camouflage paint; however, its long-range capabilities often eliminated the need for such disguise.
