A Custom Spool Holder for the Adventurous Maker. I recently came across a spool from Sunlu that shattered my preconceived notions about maximum spool size. Measuring in at 77mm, this behemoth of a spool left me questioning whether I could find any suitable holder to accommodate it. After exhaustive research, I was unable to locate a commercially available solution that met my needs. It was time to roll up my sleeves and start from scratch. A complete redesign of the original spool holder was undertaken, taking into account the unique dimensions of my newfound spool behemoth. If you happen to stumble upon an even larger spool, please don't hesitate to reach out – I'll be more than happy to revisit this design. Here's a step-by-step guide on how to assemble and prepare your custom spool holder: 1. Print two copies of the provided STL files. 2. Press a 608 bearing onto each end of the printed pieces. Be prepared for a snug fit. 3. Slide an 8mm rod or 5/16" bolt through the assembled components. 4. Secure the other end with a lock nut. 5. Give the assembly a spin to ensure free rotation. If it feels restricted, loosen the nut slightly. For your reference, several pictures are included that showcase this process in action. Happy building!
