80mm Spindle Mount and Vacuum Assembly Openbuilds C-Beam
cults3d
This is a custom mount and vacuum assembly for an 80mm, 1.5kw water-cooled spindle designed to integrate seamlessly into my C-beam build setup. It functions exceptionally well, boasting impressive bulk and strength thanks to its eight bolt-down points on the linear driving plate of the lead screw and six clamping screws that securely hold the spindle in place. Additionally, a two-piece vacuum attachment option is available for mounting on the side. This particular set-up will work with the standard C-Beam configuration; however, I plan to modify mine by doubling up the linear motion assemblies on each axis to enhance rigidity - but that's a future upgrade. For now, this setup will suffice. To achieve extra strength and durability, I opted for printing it in Poly Carbonate. While ABS can also handle it, printing solid is recommended if possible. The assembly consists of mostly M5 screws, which are identical to those provided with the machine kit. The two screws connecting the vacuum nozzle to the vacuum connector require M4 screws. Minimum screw lengths are 30mm for M5 and 10mm for M4 screws. Six M5 Tee-nuts are necessary to securely tighten the six screws between clamping the back mount and front mount together. Please note that some of the mounting screw holes are positioned in tricky locations, particularly on the vacuum connector, which may require patience when tightening due to limited turn before needing to reposition the drill bit. A low-profile ratchet is recommended if available. These assemblies take a considerable amount of time to print: approximately 12-15 hours for the back mount, 8-9 hours for the front mount, and 6-7 hours for the vacuum assembly. This will likely require an entire weekend to complete the printing and assembly process.
