80mm Fan Mod for the Valve Index HMD
thingiverse
This is a faceplate mod for the Valve Index featuring an 80mm USB fan. It forces a good amount of air into the HMD, and over it, through a relief on the top. There is no need for screws or additional post-processing of the faceplate, save for the insertion of 3mm magnets (as pictured). Gluing is optional, as I found I could simply press-fit them into their recesses, and they hold with a friction fit. The fan is also friction-fit into place. It can easily be taken out but pressing through the backside of the faceplate. The first version (pictured in red) forced too much air into the vent through the Index's "Frunk" and was too heavy to be held by magnets. I made the second version (pictured in orange) much lighter, at about a third of the thickness of the faceplate as the first version. I highly recommend that if you print this mod, to orient the parts face-downwards, for best results. The mod does not present any tracking issues for me. If you are concerned about the weight, the magnets hold up fine, as well: https://youtu.be/xOZYAucCvKU
