80mm active cooling fan mount for Mk7/8 / RepRapGuru Prusa i3 v2
thingiverse
This is a kit for adding an active cooling fan to your 3D printer using an 80mm computer case fan. It was designed for the RepRapGuru Prusa i3 v2, but should work with any printer that has a Mk7/8 extruder. I made sure the screw holes fit the extra screws that came with my printer kit. The holes are narrow so the screw threads bite into the plastic and hold it in place without needing nuts. Depending on your hardware and printer settings, you may need to adjust the hole size or drill them out to make them wider. No supports needed. Instructions Attach the mounting ring Print the mounting ring and funnel. Remove the two long screws that hold the extruder fan and heatsink on the extruder assembly. These are located on the bottom of the front face of the extruder fan. Keep track of any washers or spacers that may fall out. Place the mounting ring between the extruder fan and the heatsink as shown in the pictures, with the sideways-pointing screw holes on the right side of the ring. Screw the two long screws back in. This will firmly attach the mounting ring to the extruder assembly. Attach the funnel & 80mm fan Snip off the two thin support structures on the outside of the funnel next to the two screw holes that stick out at an odd angle. Using the four screws that came with your 80mm fan (or whatever screws you have on hand), attach the 80mm fan to the back of the funnel. Make sure your fan is rotated properly so air will blow through the funnel. Also, rotate the fan so that the wires come out of the fan on one of the top corners. Using two screws, attach the funnel/fan assembly to the mounting ring. The screw threads should bite into the plastic to hold it in place. Snip off the molex connector from the end of your 80mm fan wires and hook up the wires to the D9 terminals on your RAMPS board.
