8 x 6 x 6 Wye Fitting for PVC Dust Collection System

As a woodworker myself, I'm utilizing PVC plumbing pipes in my central dust collection system to streamline operations in my workshop. One major drawback with this type of pipe is that the fittings aren't designed to handle air flows exceeding 1000 CFM, resulting in significant pressure drops within the system. Furthermore, when working with sizes 6 inches and larger, the cost of these fittings becomes prohibitively expensive. These limitations prompted me to design and print my own custom fittings for the DC system, including blast gates, elbows, and wyes. My goal was to minimize pressure drop while ensuring a snug fit directly into PVC sewer & drain pipes without requiring additional adapter fittings. The fewer fittings in use, the better the performance of the dust collection system. My dust collector features an 8-inch inlet port, necessitating branches in two different directions to accommodate 6" runs of PVC sewer & drain pipe. A standard 8 x 6 x 6 Wye from my local Menards store (a home improvement center) cost a whopping $89 US – an excessive amount considering the cost of the pipes themselves. In designing a double wye fitting, I encountered space constraints on my printer, so I separated it into two pieces, printed each part, and then glued them together to form the complete piece. This setup allows for direct connection to 6" S&D pipe without any additional fittings, while the 8" end snugly fits into a length of 8" spiral metal pipe that feeds the dust collector.
