8" sub rings for Holden / Vauxhall Monaro / Pontiac GTO
thingiverse
I am currently working on upgrading my Holden/Vauxhall Monaro and Pontiac GTO - VY/VZ bodies to 8" subs. As far as I know, this upgrade is compatible with all models up to the current ones. I have successfully installed these subwoofers in my UK VY/V2 Monaro CV8 using Pyramid brand subs, which were reasonably priced. The clearance around the subwoofer was very tight, but it fit without any need for cutting or hammering. I'm not claiming that this is an optimal audio design, but it should provide good sound quality to me. Below are the first and second attempt photos of my installation, with the final version being a bit more refined - I had to try around 7-8 times before getting it right! Installing an 8" sub in such a tight space can be quite challenging. Print Settings: * Rafts: No * Supports: Yes * Resolution: Coarse, approximately 0.3mm * Infill: At least 30% Notes: When printing, place the parts flange-side down and cut off any tabs that help keep the edges of the feet tidy. Due to their long and thin shape, these parts may curl up during printing - using a heated bed can prevent this issue. You will need to use some support material, but very little is required. I recommend printing in thick layers using ABS for temperature resistance in the car. However, my PLA-printed versions have lasted over 2 years without any issues in temperate Britain. I used around 30-40% infill and 3 shell layers - make sure it's sturdy since these parts will be subjected to a lot of stress. Assembly involves using M5 bolts with nyloc nuts. You may need to gently drill out the holes inside with a 5mm drill, and avoid over-tightening the nuts!
