8-Layer Gimbal
grabcad
If I possessed a 3D printer at home, my initial creation would be an intricate 8-layer gimbal that surpasses the typical three-axis design. This unique design boasts seven axes of rotation and features filleted edges for stress reduction. I've shared the model in six variations, each with a distinct gap between layers ranging from 6 to 40 thousandths of an inch. The 10-thousandths gap version is recommended for printers like Objet, while larger gaps may be necessary for less accurate machines. Creative positioning should minimize support requirements. All renderings showcase the 10-thousandths gap model, with the last image depicting a more robust design. Feedback and suggestions are appreciated to enhance this model further. I've also added a stronger version with thicker rails on October 7, and reduced images to four on October 8 to adhere to contest rules.
