8 Inch drill press replacement switch box V2
prusaprinters
This is a completely redesigned switch box. The original box was made using Tinker cad. This left the box functional as a replacement, but it was awkward, didn’t mount properly and did not have the depth gauge. This version was made from scratch using Onshape. I made the tabs thicker for more stability, and I elongated the holes to allow for adjustment. The new box includes a space for a printed depth gauge. A depth gauge marked in inches is included. The depth gauge, I printed numbers down with and without supports. Both came out nearly identical, printing with supports on my machine left crisper looking numbers. I printed the body portion mounting tabs down with supports. I did a second print and split the model in two using Prusa slicer at the point the two sections meet 26.97 mm when placed tabs on plate. I plan on gluing it together. By doing the split and printing the depth gauge, numbers down it is possible to print this with only minimal supports. I printed this in PETG .6 nozzle .24 layer height with 4 perimeters and 15% cubic infill. This creates a strong part and allows you to tighten the mounting screws without cracking or deforming the mounting tabs. In the process of designing the new one I had the opportunity to see in person several other brands of 8 inch drill presses, and noticed they all shared the same switch box. So this box should fit at least the older Central Machine drill press, Delta drill press, Wen drill press, Craftsman drill press, and Rikon drill press just as the file is now with no modifications. Included are the .3mf, .stl, and cad files.
