8,8cm Sprgr. L/4,5 _ 88mm Flak Projectile
thingiverse
This Thing is just one example of the many different High Explosive rounds the infamous German '88' of WWII could fire. Not one of the boat-tailed ones often associated with Tiger tanks - though it is compatible - but the artillery/Flak type gun on the cruciform mount: Flak18, 36, 37. (Also I believe it fits some ship-board naval guns, including the Type VII U-Boat deck gun, 'though of course this had shorter shellcases, not L/4,5's.) I wanted to knock up something 'quick and simple' to go between a nose fuze and shellcase I managed to aquire years ago, both of which have always looked a little forlorn standing by themselves. Then I found out how complicated it is just making a chunk of steel go bang! So many parts to arrange a whole chain of little explosions and so many different ways to manufacture them all. (So much so that the nose fuze is a separate Thing: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:5023000 This particular projectile had the solid explosive filling inserted through the bottom rather than poured in through the neck. (Pedants are advised I've reduced the base diameter 1/2 mm so the finished item will squeeze into my fired shell-case.)
