8-32 nut thumb knob, 40mm tall
thingiverse
I was searching for a tall thumbscrew-type nut to fit my project requirements. The space between the nut and bottom of the knob is 40mm. I sized the nut opening for a #8 nut and included two versions: one with a smaller clover-shaped knob and the other with a large triangular knob. To secure the nut in place, I used CA superglue to attach it to the shaft's base. Since the shaft is quite narrow due to my specific needs, I recommend printing the part in a durable material like PETG for optimal results. Keep in mind that different nut sizes can cause slight variations, so if the fit isn't snug enough, feel free to scale down the model by a couple of percent. Due to the design's constraints, this nut is intended for light-duty hand tightening applications only; over-tightening could lead to damage or breakage of the PETG material. 2/16/19 - I added a new model featuring 8-32 heat-set inserts available on eBay from seller albersllc. This type of insert offers better performance than a glued-in nut and can be easily secured in place using a soldering iron, making it a convenient alternative.
