Well, don’t look so shocked when I tells ya, none other than me, Fungarius!” He flashes a crooked grin at the young Gobnots’ looks of surprise and puts the scroll aside. Here’s a topic he could talk about for days on end. Fungarius talks about his journey, back when he was an outcast from his village for speaking out against their shaman. The old fool did not want to listen to Fungarius when he first heard a call from the jungle and instead declared him a heretic for daring to hear voices that the shaman could not. Fungarius had been young back then and took his banishment in stride. He decided to travel in the direction the voice instructed him to. His journey took weeks, and after a few days, he was unsure if he would survive the harsh jungles. He had greatly overestimated himself, but the calls kept him going.Much later, he arrived at a cave. The voice went silent. Fungarius ventured inside and poked the very first thing he could find with a stick. That thing turned out to be Vorghutog, who had been calling to him. Awakened after millennia, the creature lazily breathed a puff of spores into Fungarius’ face, then laid itself back to sleep. Soon after inhaling the cloud, a large fungus began to sprout on Fungarius’ head and he began to share Vorghutog’s thoughts and understand its mind. After a much less dangerous journey due to his new abilities back to his former home, Fungarius marched right up to the shaman’s hut. Without delay, he belched a cloud of noxious spores in the old Gobnot’s direction. Unlike the spores that had melded with his brain in the cave, these merely grew into fully-sized mushrooms that choked the shaman to death from the inside before he could utter a spell. Swiftly, Fungarius did the same to his chieftain and declared himself ruler. His first order of business: Relocation. Getting as close to Vorghutog as possible. A hearty cackle during this speech produced enough spores for every single villager to get a little whiff and agree with the new chief’s plan.
