Grooved Net Weight, Hot Springs Village, Port Moller, Alaska CAT# 77-47-U22 Okada excavations HHU, Level 3. Hot Springs 2B. 500-800 CE. The massive village of Hot Springs sits proudly on the shore of Port Moller, where the southern Bering Sea meets the Alaska Peninsula. Over a century has passed since the first excavations began, with multiple teams working tirelessly to uncover its secrets. Two distinct periods of occupation stand out: one from 2000 BCE to 1000 BCE, and another from 100 CE to 800 CE. The artifacts unearthed at Hot Springs Village are a direct result of extensive research conducted under NSF grants 0137756, 1204020, 1139266, and 1321411. H. Maschner leads the investigation as Principal Investigator. Initial digitization took place at the IVL lab on Iditarod Street University campus, with subsequent processing completed at Global Digital Heritage.
