Hot Springs 1B. 1600-1300 BCE The massive village of Hot Springs sits proudly on the shore of Port Moller, where the southern Bering Sea meets the Alaska Peninsula's rugged coastline. For over a century, several teams have carefully unearthed its secrets, leaving behind a treasure trove of knowledge about this ancient settlement. Main occupations at Hot Springs span an impressive 2,000 years, from 2000 BCE to 100 CE and then again from 100 CE to 800 CE. These time periods reveal a rich cultural heritage that continues to fascinate archaeologists today. Thanks to research grants NSF 0137756, NSF 1204020, NSF 1139266, and NSF 1321411, the Hot Springs artifacts have been meticulously documented. H. Maschner, a renowned Principal Investigator, led this groundbreaking project. The original digitizing work was carried out at the IVL at Idaho State University, with subsequent processing completed by Global Digital Heritage.
