77-47-T32 Caribou Bone, Hot Springs Village

Drilled Caribou Bone, a fascinating find from Hot Springs Village, Port Moller, Alaska, comes to us with a rich history as CAT# 77-47-T32 in Okada excavations HHT, Level 2D, House A, within the hot springs 2B complex, dating back to the 500-800 CE era. The massive Hot Springs village, situated on the shores of Port Moller, boasts a unique location on the Alaska Peninsula side of the southern Bering Sea, with archaeological excavations spanning over 100 years by various teams. The primary occupation periods reveal two distinct eras: 2000 BCE-1000 BCE and 100 CE-800 CE. A treasure trove of artifacts from Hot Springs has been presented as a direct result of research conducted under the auspices of grants NSF 0137756, NSF 1204020, NSF 1139266, and NSF 1321411, led by Principal Investigator H. Maschner. The original digitizing work was meticulously done at Idah St Univ's IVL, while subsequent processing was completed with precision at Global Digital Heritage.
