Ivory Artifact, Hot Springs Village, Port Moller, Alaska CAT# 77-47-T260 Okada excavations HHT, Level 5C. Hot Springs 1B. 1600-1300 BCE. The massive village of Hot Springs sits on the shore of Port Moller, its southern Bering Sea shoreline stretching along the Alaska Peninsula. Decades of excavation have revealed the site's rich history, with multiple teams contributing to the discovery over the past century. Primary occupation dates fall within two distinct periods: 2000 BCE-1000 BCE and 100 CE-800 CE. The Hot Springs artifacts emerge from a comprehensive research effort sponsored by NSF grants 0137756, 1204020, 1139266, and 1321411. H. Maschner leads the investigation as Principal Investigator. Initial digitizing work takes place at the IVL on Idaho State University's campus, followed by further processing at Global Digital Heritage.
