Modified Seal Rib. Hot Springs Village, Port Moller, Alaska CAT# 77-47-T217 Okada excavations HHT, Level 6. Hot Springs 1A. 2000-1600 BCE. The massive village of Hot Springs sits proudly on the shore of Port Moller, where the southern Bering Sea meets the Alaska Peninsula. For over a century, several teams have converged to unravel its secrets through excavation. The primary occupations date back to 2000 BCE and 100 CE, while another wave of habitation occurred from 800 CE. The Hot Springs artifacts emerge as a direct result of research fueled by grants NSF 0137756, NSF 1204020, NSF 1139266, and NSF 1321411. H. Maschner led the charge as Principal Investigator. The initial digitization took place at the IVL, Idaho State University's hub of innovation. Subsequent processing was completed at Global Digital Heritage, a premier digital heritage preservation facility.
