Human: Excavated Harpoon Component from Hot Springs Village in Alaska. Port Moller Site. CAT# 77-47-T104 Okada Excavations, Level 5B, Hot Springs 1B. 1600-1300 BCE. The massive village of Hot Springs on the shore of Port Moller, situated on the southern Bering Sea side of the Alaska Peninsula, is a significant archaeological site that has been excavated by multiple teams over the past century. Primary occupations at this site date back to 2000 BCE and continued through 100 CE, with additional human presence recorded from 800 CE. The Hot Springs artifacts were obtained as a direct result of research supported by grants NSF 0137756, NSF 1204020, NSF 1139266, and NSF 1321411. H. Maschner is the Principal Investigator who led this project. Original digitization was conducted at the Idaho State University's IVL, while subsequent processing took place at Global Digital Heritage.
