Small Harpoon excavations, Port Moller, Alaska CAT# 77-47-Q67 Okada excavations HHQ, Level 3-1 Hot Springs 1C. 1300-1000 BCE The massive village of Hot Springs sits prominently on the shore of Port Moller, with breathtaking views of the southern Bering Sea. Over a century ago, multiple teams began excavating this site, uncovering clues to its rich history. The majority of the occupations date back to 2000 BCE-1000 BCE and another period from 100 CE to 800 CE. The Hot Springs artifacts are the result of extensive research conducted under grants NSF 0137756, NSF 1204020, NSF 1139266, and NSF 1321411. H. Maschner led this groundbreaking project as Principal Investigator. The initial digitizing work was done at the IVL at Id. St. Univ., while subsequent processing took place at Global Digital Heritage.
