77-47-Q400 Chopper, Hot Springs Village

Heavy Chopper, a significant component of the composite found in Hot Springs Village, Port Moller, Alaska, CAT# 77-47-Q410, emerges from Okada excavations HHQ, Level 3-4, Hot Springs 1C, dating back to 1300-1000 BCE. The massive village at Hot Springs site is situated on the shore of Port Moller, facing the southern Bering Sea on the Alaska Peninsula. Over the past century, multiple teams have conducted excavations there. Primary occupations took place from 2000 BCE to 1000 BCE and again from 100 CE to 800 CE. Research results presented as artifacts from Hot Springs are a direct outcome of research conducted under grants NSF 0137756, NSF 1204020, NSF 1139266, and NSF 1321411. H. Maschner is the Principal Investigator behind this project. Original digitization took place at the IVL at Id. St. Univ., while subsequent processing was completed at Global Digital Heritage.
