Russell Creek Point, Hot Springs Village, Port Moller, Alaska CAT# 77-47-Q371 Okada excavations HHQ, Level 4-10s Hot Springs 1B/C. 1600-1300 BCE. Also found at Russell Creek Site in Cold Bay, and at Cape Denbigh. The massive village of Hot Springs sits proudly on the shore of Port Moller, commanding a stunning view of the southern Bering Sea from its position on the Alaska Peninsula. Over the past century, multiple teams have excavated this site with great care, uncovering valuable insights into the lives of those who once called it home. The main periods of occupation reveal a fascinating timeline, spanning 2000 BCE to 1000 BCE and then again from 100 CE to 800 CE. A wealth of artifacts has been uncovered at Hot Springs as a direct result of research conducted under grants NSF 0137756, NSF 1204020, NSF 1139266, and NSF 1321411. H. Maschner, a highly respected Principal Investigator, led this groundbreaking project. The original digitizing work was carried out with precision at the IVL at Id. St. Univ., while subsequent processing was completed with great skill at Global Digital Heritage.
