Harpoon Tip, Hot Springs Village, Port Moller, Alaska CAT# 77-47-Q261 Okada excavations HHQ, Level 4-6 Hot Springs 1C excavated by skilled archaeologists who uncovered evidence of human presence dating back to around 1300-1000 BCE. However, some artifacts may have been mixed in from lower levels. The massive Hot Springs site, situated on the shore of Port Moller, boasts an impressive history along the Alaska Peninsula side of the southern Bering Sea. Over the last century, multiple excavation teams have carefully unearthed its secrets. The primary occupations at this site span 2000 BCE-1000 BCE and another significant period from 100 CE to 800 CE. The extensive research conducted under grants NSF 0137756, NSF 1204020, NSF 1139266, and NSF 1321411 has led to the collection of numerous artifacts presented as a result. H. Maschner, Principal Investigator, spearheaded this research effort. The initial digitizing process took place at the IVL at Id. St. Univ., while subsequent processing was completed by experts at Global Digital Heritage.
