Archaeologists Uncover Hidden History of Massive Hot Springs Village on Alaska's Bering Sea Coast The Hot Springs site is a sprawling metropolis situated on the shore of Port Moller, boasting breathtaking views of the southern Bering Sea from the Alaska Peninsula side. Decades of excavation efforts by multiple teams have shed light on this ancient settlement. Research Reveals Two Distinct Occupations at Hot Springs Village Excavations reveal that the primary occupations span two distinct periods: 2000 BCE to 1000 BCE, and a later phase from 100 CE to 800 CE. Artifacts uncovered during these excavations offer valuable insights into the lives of ancient inhabitants. Hot Springs Artifacts Shed Light on Ancient Cultures The Hot Springs artifacts are presented as a direct result of extensive research conducted under grants NSF 0137756, NSF 1204020, NSF 1139266, and NSF 1321411. H. Maschner, Principal Investigator, spearheaded the project. Original digitization work was carried out at the Idaho State University's IVL, with subsequent processing completed at Global Digital Heritage.
