Harpoon Tip Fragment, Hot Springs Village, Port Moller, Alaska CAT# 77-47-Q176 Okada excavations HHQ, Level 4-1 Hot Springs 1C. 1300-1000 BCE The massive village of Hot Springs stands proudly on the shore of Port Moller, with the southern Bering Sea stretching out as far as the eye can see on the Alaska Peninsula side. Over a century ago, several teams of archaeologists began excavating this site, uncovering its secrets layer by layer. The main periods of occupation stretch from 2000 BCE to 1000 BCE and again from 100 CE to 800 CE. The Hot Springs artifacts are a testament to the research conducted under grants NSF 0137756, NSF 1204020, NSF 1139266, and NSF 1321411. H. Maschner led this groundbreaking project as Principal Investigator. The original digitizing work was done at the IVL at Id. St. Univ., while subsequent processing took place at Global Digital Heritage.
