Bone Burnishing Tool or "pencil", Port Moller, Alaska CAT# 77-47-Q136 Okada excavations HHQ, Level 4-1 Hot Springs 1C, circa 1300-1000 BCE. The village of Hot Springs on the southern Bering Sea is a massive settlement located on the shore of Port Moller in Alaska's Peninsula region. Multiple excavation teams have worked at this site over the past century. The primary occupations date back to between 2000 and 1000 BCE, as well as from 100 CE to 800 CE. The Hot Springs artifacts are presented as a result of research conducted under grants NSF 0137756, NSF 1204020, NSF 1139266, and NSF 1321411. H. Maschner is the principal investigator responsible for this project. Original digitization took place at the Id. St. Univ. IVL, while subsequent processing was completed at Global Digital Heritage.
