74th Pennsylvania Infantry Monument - Gettysburg, Pennsylvania
thingiverse
The monument to the 74th Pennsylvania Infantry stands out as a unique tribute to Civil War soldiers, capturing not a soldier in battle or on parade, but one succumbing to death's grasp. Based on the iconic "Dying Gaul," a renowned Roman statue frequently reproduced during the late 18th to mid-19th century, the color sergeant crumples to the ground, mortally wounded in a poignant pose. This tribute was unveiled on July 2nd, 1888. In 2003, disaster struck when an SUV collided with the monument, shattering it into multiple fragments. Fortunately, restoration efforts were undertaken, and today the monument proudly stands on Howard Avenue along the 11th Corps' battle line north of Gettysburg. Here's How I Created This Design Crafted from iPhone snapshots merged through the desktop version of 123dcatch, I then refined the model in Meshmixer to repair, seal, and flatten its base.
