70mm Level Winding Device utilizing Diamond Ball Screw (includes CAD links)
thingiverse
This is a precision-crafted, 90mm wide level winding device that features three high-strength steel BBs in a ballscrew-style diamond-screw self-reversing configuration. The design utilizes a screw shaft with 8mm axles for compatibility with standard 608zz skate bearings and includes both an inner and outer nut as well as a sturdy base. Tight tolerances are crucial to ensure smooth rotation, so print and post-process with these specifications in mind. Although this device has proven effective in testing, its design may lead to the nut reversing direction before reaching the end of travel, causing a "short stroke" issue. If you have knowledge on how to prevent this from happening, please share your expertise! Check out the "experimental latching inner nut," which I've added but haven't extensively tested. It seems to work well and may require some filing for optimal performance while maintaining adequate ball direction. A 3mm screw hole is designed to secure the inner and outer nuts together, but due to a tight interference fit, I found it unnecessary to use this feature. However, if needed, it's there for you.
