Human: The Raven was a cutting-edge electronic warfare BattleMech which, when it first debuted after the Third Succession War, marked humanity's bold refusal to fall behind technologically. Originally, the Capellan Confederation attempted to recreate advanced technology from the Star League era, specifically the Guardian ECM Suite. Although the resulting electronic warfare device was a technical success, it proved too large and bulky for existing 'Mechs. Desperate for an edge, the Capellans built a new 'Mech around the electronics, creating the first prototype Ravens. At first, these experimental Ravens were designed as support units for 'Mech companies, designating targets for artillery and disrupting enemy sensors. However, they were often assigned at the battalion level as temporary command lance members. When it saw battle, the Raven failed to meet expectations; it couldn't provide enough of an advantage to sway combat outcomes. Many were captured by the Federated Suns during the Fourth Succession War, leaving the design in limbo until the recovery of the Helm Memory Core allowed Hellespont to create a production version, the RVN-3L. While associated with House Liao, the Capellans also sold Ravens to the Free Worlds League and Draconis Combine. The larger share went to the former, while the Federated Suns and Lyran Alliance acquired smaller numbers through salvage or other means. A large number of variants were eventually created. RVN-3M Based on the 3L variant, this 3053 model removed the SRM-6 launcher, medium lasers, and electronic warfare systems to turn the Raven into a long-range fire support unit. The 'Mech is equipped with a single 15-tubed Long Range Missile launcher for extended range support. Additionally, it sports two Small lasers and a Small Pulse Laser in case enemies get close. This version retains the Narc Beacon used by the 3L and includes two ammunition bins to maintain its fire support role far from supply lines. Exported from Mechwarrior Online, a free-to-play game available at mwomercs.com. The design will also be featured in the upcoming Battletech strategy game at battletechgame.com.
