In 2463, Coventry Metal Works (then known as Coventry Defense Conglomerate) introduced their second BattleMech, the COM-1A Commando. Specifically designed for the Lyran Commonwealth Armed Forces, this 'Mech was one of the first ever created for reconnaissance purposes. The Commando was significantly lighter and faster than its predecessors, despite still utilizing primitive BattleMech technology. During the first large-scale battle between BattleMechs in 2475 on Nox, the Commando was able to destroy much heavier Kuritan Gladiators. The installed Large Laser caused several problems, leading to the introduction of other 'Mechs (like the Wasp in 2464 and the Stinger in 2479) that were better equipped for scouting and even mounted jump jets. The COM-2D variant, introduced in 2486, drastically altered the Commando's profile by exchanging laser weaponry with short-range missiles, effectively turning the machine into a striker. With only four tons of armor to protect itself, the Commando is not designed to participate in stand-up fights against heavier enemies. However, it excels at hit-and-run tactics and as a scout hunter. Exported from Mechwarrior Online, a free-to-play game that can be found at mwomercs.com. The Design will also be included in the upcoming Battletech strategy game: battletechgame.com. This description comes from the wiki on sarna.net/wiki/Commando.
