60mm Fan to ABS 1.5 Pipe adapter
thingiverse
When setting up my AnyCubic Photon S printer, I required a solution to ventilate air outside and had to run approximately 50 feet around my basement to achieve this. To accomplish this efficiently, I opted for 1.5" ABS plumbing pipe due to its affordability and ease of setup. Commercial inline extractor fans were unaffordable, noisy, and often too large - usually requiring a minimum of 4-inch pipes. Therefore, I scoured my parts bin and found two 60mm computer fans. Initially, I was unsure if a single fan near the printer would be sufficient to move air along the pipe run. To address this concern, I created both an enclosure mount for the switch inside with the printer and an inline mount positioned at the end of the run. The enclosure mount is designed to turn on when the printer is running, while the inline mount remains always-on for a minor vent effect even during idle periods. To monitor print progress, the front of my enclosure features a plexiglass insert. I employed available nuts and bolts for mounting purposes - approximately M4 in size. The friction fit between the pipes was tight enough to remain secure without any additional adhesives. All parts were printed on my FDM printer using native STL orientations, requiring no supports during printing. Approximately 20% infill was used where necessary. As a result, I now enjoy odor-free printing sessions in my basement, even when operating at full capacity.
