608 Bearing Guide for Prusa Mendel

To enhance Prusa Iteration 2's bearing guides, I modified Greg Frost's design (available at https://github.com/prusajr/PrusaMendel/blob/master/source/bearing-guide.scad). Originally, the outer race was on one half and the inner race on the other, with a 0.3 mm clearance to facilitate assembly. However, this made it difficult to achieve concentricity. My updated design places both races on the same half and removes the clearance, resulting in parts that fit together more easily when printed on a well-tuned 3D printer. If your printer is not perfectly tuned, these modified parts are more likely to be usable than the original design. Print three of these improved guides for your Prusa Mendel Iteration 2. In my experience with a Mendel and slic3r, setting the clearance parameter to zero produced parts that snapped together effortlessly. However, these parts must still be glued together, with acetone recommended if using ABS filament for printing.
