600mm RC Aeroplane Dolly
thingiverse
Having spent countless hours meticulously crafting and detailing my P-51 Cambrian Funfighter, I was hesitant to entrust its maiden flight to anyone else. Therefore, I embarked on a quest to find a simple yet reliable launch dolly design online. After scouring the internet, I stumbled upon Romeo Whisky's ingenious 2010 design on the RCME model flying forums, and my version is inspired by his brilliant creation. My design boasts an uncomplicated glue-and-pin kit that requires minimal assembly precision, aside from aligning the main frame on a flat surface. The two plastic parts can be crafted in any material of your choice and printed with a swift 0.3mm layer height. Utilize 2 perimeters with a 0.4mm nozzle and 3 top/bottom layers to achieve a satisfactory skin thickness of approximately 0.8mm, while also employing a 10% infill. Throughout the build, utilize 3mm wire and approximately 75mm wheels for optimal performance. Here's a comprehensive list of required components: * Front and back printed parts * 2 x 18mm x 600mm wooden dowels * 2 x 425m copper pipe insulation tubes (for 12mm pipes) * 1 x 50mm copper pipe insulation tube * 2 x undercarriage wires. Refer to the diagram for bending instructions. * 2 x model restrainers. Consult the diagram for bending information. * 1 x 75mm tailwheel axle * 3 x 75mm wheels * 4 x 40mm locking pins (optional) * 6 x 3mm washers (spacers for tailwheel) * 10 x 3mm wheel collets To assemble the dolly, start by drilling holes to 3mm after printing. Cut the dowel and insulation tubes to size, then slide the insulation over the rod. Apply a small amount of glue on the ends and attach the two rods to the front and rear 3D-printed parts, ensuring they're aligned correctly (refer to the assembly image) and fully seated. Place the dolly on a flat surface and adjust it so both printed parts are level, with one end raised slightly for insulation clearance. Optionally, once the glue is dry, secure the printed parts to the dowels using 4 x 40mm locking pins. Assemble the tailwheel by combining the 75mm axle, 2 x wheel collets, and as many washers as necessary. Insert the two undercarriage wires and hold them in place with 2 x wheel collets. Secure the wheels using 4 x wheel collets. Add heat shrink tubing or electrical tape to the restrainer wires and attach them using two wheel collets on the underside for secure holding. Finally, use contact adhesive to glue the short piece of insulation pipe to the rear printed part. The restrainers are designed to freely rotate, so be sure to rotate them forward before placing the model on the dolly.
