6" Rack, ATX PSU Cabinet
thingiverse
An ATX power supply cabinet designed to fit within KronBjorn's 6" mini rack, found here: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:1936196. The cabinet is quite tall already due to the power supply being mounted on its side, so I decided not to make it a full 12U. Instead, I left it roughly 11.5U at 159mm tall, leaving extra space at the bottom since a ~7lb power supply will likely be placed at the bottom of the stack anyway. It's a bit deeper than the rack itself at 180mm, but it can fit back there comfortably or I might create a stretched version of the rack top and bottom plates to allow for a cover panel that hides the wires. Two versions of the cabinet are available, one with bracing and one without. The brace is simply something I threw together to keep the tall sides from flopping during printing; your printer may not need it, but it's up to you to decide. The brace is spaced 0.4mm away from the model wherever it touches, so it should break away like supports do. You'll probably want to print the cabinet on a raft since there's not much surface area for it to touch the build plate. Adding an extra 8-10mm margin for the raft will ensure good adhesion. The top of the cabinet is covered enough that only the cable slot is exposed when a 115mm cabinet is installed above it. Longer cabinets can be used as well, and I made sure the slot is deep enough to accommodate the RAMPS case linked above, which still allows cables out at 133mm deep. Two versions of the front plate are available, one with a vertical slat grill and one with horizontal louvers. The louvers are 30* off from vertical while printing, so they should be fine without supports. The handle I used is taken straight from this: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:1840021 since I saw no need to make them longer. Longer handles would only weaken them anyway. As of 1/13, I've printed just the PSU test fit piece and it fits my Corsair CX650 semi-modular perfectly. 01/13 - A third case version was added with a 100mm x 100mm vent in the side for PSUs that have a 120mm fan on the side instead of an 80mm fan on the back. Most new PSUs are like this, and I think 23mm of space between the fan and the wall may not be enough to draw all the air it needs from the front. 01/14 - Two more front variations were added: one blank and one with a diamond grille that matches the side vented case. The blank one could work on the side vented case or you can upload it into Tinkercad to design your own holes in it. 01/16 - A new case was added with a round grille for a side vent, and I reworked the brace for the open side. This new brace will use much less plastic but should still help hold the sides from flopping. The gap around the brace is 0.4mm for easy removal.
