6" Newtonian Primary Mirror Clip Cover
thingiverse
The diffraction pattern of a star is affected by the image of the mirror used to create it. The clips that hold the primary mirror down create an extra three-fold pattern that scatters light away from the center of the star and from the four diffraction spikes caused by the secondary mirror holder on Newtonian telescopes, making the stars look a little more bloated and the spikes a little less sharp. This cover restores the edge of the mirror to a circle to try to alleviate these issues. IMPORTANT: Only install this if you know what you are doing! Be careful to not touch the mirror with your fingers. Do not over-tighten the mirror clips, or you will get "pinched optics", making stars look triangular or lopsided. The clips should JUST barely touch the mirror, nothing more. Also, this won't be worth the trouble if your guiding or collimation is bad. Made to fit a Celestron C6N.
