This is a 3D printable 6 degree tapered tenon cutter. The intended purpose is to create a 6 degree taper on the ends of legs and posts for Windsor chair making, or staked furniture making. It’s basically a massive pencil sharpener. There are three basic sizes provided, as indicated by the first set of numbers. The 11-16 is to be read as an 11/16 fraction in inches. Same for the 5-8 and 1-2 are ⅝ and ½ respectively. This indicates the size of the hole on the small end of the tenon cutter. The second set of numbers defines the tenon cutter’s angle. I got a 6 degree reamer, and it’s not exactly 6 degrees, it’s 6.4 degrees. That’s minor, but off by just enough to leave some wiggle room for a leg in a seat. So why not make it perfect? I’ve provided angles from 5.5 degrees to 6.5 degrees at 0.1 degree increments. This should allow for almost any 6 degree reamer to find it’s perfect partner.MATERIALS NEEDEDThe blade. This tenon cutter works perfectly with the Lee Valley “Replacement Blades for Veritas Tenon Cutters.”Screws. #8 screws will work perfect for the blade adjustment screws, these thread through the plastic and set the blade depth as well as keep the blade at the proper depth. I suggest a ½” length. #8 or #10 screws can be used for holding the blade in place, running through the body of the part. I suggest a ¾” to 1” screw length. If #8 screws are used, washers are a must. If #10 screws are used, washers are optional but recommended. This tenon cutter works well, and if you have access to a makerspace (private or one at a public library) or have a 3D printer of your own, you can make these tenon cutters in a few hours.
