Unlike sliding joint mechanisms, this system moves a platform along a straight path without rotation. Although there are many straight-line mechanisms, this 6-bar arrangement provides not just straight-line movement for a single point, but a full platform's worth of infinite straight lines. This mechanism is not unique - it can be derived with the right link lengths and placement of centers, making it less complex than an 8-bar animation that moves in an arc. Additionally, this mechanism could serve as a replacement for a pick and place robot with only one constant speed input motor.
