A handle for a 6.3 mm Hex Shaft. Intended to assist with nozzle changes.

Design considerations:

Accept a standard 6.3 mm Hex Shaft.

Use M3 bolts and nuts to secure shaft (likely in spares from printer build and mainenence).

Large enough for some grip.

Small enough to avoid over tightening a nozzle.

Not too tight, not too loose.

Heat from a hot nozzle will transfer to the handle.

I advise Annealing PLA if you choose to print in PLA (my personal choice). PETG may well be ok with the heat, PC almost certainly ok with the heat. I have not tested all possible combinations.

Designed with FreeCAD.

2021Jan08: Added holes to assist with removing hex driver or nut.
2021Jan16: Added a low profile version (lp) for hex shafts with scalloped profiles. In the low profile picture we can see the difference a correctly levelled bed (after moving the printer) makes to the print: black before levelling, orange after.

Print instructions

Prints without supports

Check the gcode files for the correct nozzle size and material for your use.

Post-processing for PLA: Anneal to avoid deformation or melting in use. I suggest scaling the print by: X and Y 102% and Z 98% if annealing. For annealing HTPLA I am use X and Y 101% and Z 99%.
